Being Who You are?

by NoniKaufman on July 12, 2009

I’ve been working with clients about getting in touch with their most wonderful qualities–call it your brand, call it what divine intelligence gifted you with, whatever. That way you have of being in the world when you’re feeling in the flow that becomes the nectar to to attract the right people you require in your life for your next steps. This is a wonderful way to enhance your wellness in life and model this for others.

Last week was a great example of a young man who got really clear and committed to showing up with three key qualities in the biggest way possible. He spoke about them regularly continually committing more and more to always being this way. He interviewed for two jobs in the last two weeks dressed for success in his branding.  As he shared who he in his own unique way during the first interview, the two interviewers were puzzled and rather critical and confronting. The interview was ill-planned. In fact, the whole environment seemed a shambles physically and in terms of  lack of rapport among the staff. They appeared absent from their jobs and withdrawn.

The next interview was wildly different–he was greeted by the top dog who was clearly excited to meet him. As he shared with them what he was committed to in his life well beyond the job,  they were  moved and delighted, and expressed how inspired they were by who he was and how he showed up. They offered him a job that day, not for the opening they had, but to create his own job description and help take their team and business to a new level. Through the contrast, it was easy for him to see where he belonged!

This came as a clear message to him to be all that he was, shining in his brilliance–a few weeks earlier some friends has suggested he downplay his past achievements on his resume as he was getting feedback from employers that he was overqualified for what they had to offer. Imagine shrinking down into some diminished bit of who you are? High five for going out there and shining, my friend! You are an inspiration.

Isn’t it amazing what we can create when we’re properly focused on both what we want and what the potential client/employment proscpect wants. too?

Yes! And you’re an inspiration in living out fully who you are. I really enjoyed your talk last weekend.
